Eugene Edward Dunton, 71, of Conover, N.C., made the glorious trek to the kingdom of heaven Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice.
Born Nov. 8, 1941, he was the son of the late Elmer Kenneth Dunton and Perces Mary Millett. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Marilys Gardner Dunton of the home; six daughters, Tammy Hammer and husband Robert of Erie, Lisa Lewis and husband Tim of Ridgway, Julie Aldred and husband Brett of Lenoir, N.C., Mary McGrath and husband Padraic of Pittsburgh, Victoria Rosado of Erie, and Sabrina Klein of Newton, N.C.; two sons, Kevin Dunton of Ontario, N.Y., and Major E. Edward Dunton II and wife Montana of San Antonio, Texas; 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and his best friend, his beloved Pug, Butch. He was preceded in death by four brothers; three sisters; and a son, Don Edwin Dunton.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013 at Royal Chapel Church of God with Pastor David A. Smith officiating. The family received friends following the service Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013 at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road Newton, NC 28658 or to the charity of one's choice.
