Edith Marie DeStefano, 94, of Savoy, Ill., formerly of Williamsport, died at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014 at Carle Hospital, Urbana. She was surrounded by her family and devoted caregivers.
Edith was born Feb. 25, 1919 in Kersey daughter of Benjaminio and Erminia Morelli Carlini. She married John Angelo DeStefano on Nov. 25, 1948 in Ridgway.
Edith was the cherished mother of daughter Lizanne DeStefano and son-in-law John Trach of Champaign and beloved grandmother to Juliana Trach, Norderstedt, Germany. She was a fun-loving aunt to Kayleen, Marlese and Monique Bogacki, Charles Parmigiani, and James, Benjamin, Peter, Susan, and Mary Lou Carlini, and many grand nieces and nephews.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, John; brothers Benjamin, Edo, Alvin and Raymond Carlini; and sisters Inez Bonini and Mary Parmigiani.
Edith enjoyed politics, the popular press and world events. She was a great conversationalist and listener. She will be missed by many friends, young and old.
She was a member of St. Matthew’s Parish, Champaign.
Burial will be in St. Leo’s Cemetery, Ridgway.
Flowers will be provided by the family. Memorial donations may be made to Champaign County Humane Society or an organization of the donor’s choice.
