The Christmas Day Happening will Happen!

For 37 Christmases, Karen Lundin has shared the holiday with several hundred families, friends, and total strangers. If that sounds a little strange, then you have never attended the annual Ridgway Christmas Day Happening.

The event serves "to provide a Christmas meal to community members who would otherwise be spending the holiday alone," according to event organizer Karen Lundin. The event is an "afternoon of socializing with old friends and new acquaintances, a splendid meal, and delightful entertainment, all free of charge. Over the years, guests and volunteers who have gathered together on Christmas Day in Ridgway have become a family."

With the COVID-19 restrictions in place, Lundin was worried that this year the event would just not be 'Happening", but thanks to a team of volunteers, and the indomitable Karen Lundin herself, the event will take place on Christmas Day for the 38th year in a row, but modified to just the usual home-delivered meals as well as takeouts. Those wishing for Home Delivery or take-outs must register in advance by December 22 to reserve their meals. To reserve your meals, please call Karin at 776-5180, Linda at 772-5174, Jan at 776-6508, or Kay at 776-1896. The traditional meal will be served with all the fixings thanks to generous support from local individuals and businesses. Meals will be available between 11 am and 1 pm.
