Farrell ends Elkers season with 51-33 win

The Farrell Steelers defeated the Elkers, 51-33, in PIAA Class AA second-round playoff action Wednesday night at Clarion University's Tippin Gymnasium. The loss ended Ridgway's season. The repeating District 9 champion Elkers end the season at 20-8. It is the 10th straight season the team has won at least 20 games. The teams entered the second quarter tied at 11. The Steelers pulled ahead 24-17 at the half. Ridgway's six second-quarter points came from the foul line. The Elkers had a 7-0 run after Farrell's, Kimahri Wade hit a bucket 25 seconds into the second half. Matt Dush scored four of the points and Zack Zameroski hit a field goal than one-of-two from the line to make it 26-24 with 4:42 left in the third. It's as close as Ridgway came. The Steelers responded with a 16-2 run to finish off the third period into the fourth that put them in control. Farrells Eric Hopson scored a game-high 22 points. Zack Zameroski led Ridgway with 12 points. Dan Park added nine, Matt Dush five, Domenic Allegretto a three-pointer, and RJ Miller hit a field goal to round out the Elkers scoring. Brian Hilton scored 12 points for the Steelers - six on slam dunks. Ben King also it in double digits (10) for Farrell.
