Winter storm Avery hit the northeast hard on Thursday, Nov. 15. The storm wrapped up on Friday, after dumping “heavy, early season snow” in Pennsylvania and other surrounding states. Avery caused multiple early dismissals, two hours delays, and business closures in Elk County following the large amounts of snow. Due to dangerous road conditions, PennDOT lowered the speed limit on Thursday morning. Most normal speed limits resumed on Friday. Weather conditions from Saturday through Friday, Nov. 24 range in cloudy nights and scattered snow showers. Between .25 to 14 inches of snow accumulated in various areas in Pennsylvania. The exact amount of snow in Ridgway was unavailable at press time.
