Freezing rain and sleet caused treacherous conditions on area roadways, triggering accidents and closures on Sunday. Route 219 and 948 had multiple trees and downed power lines that halted traffic on the roadways all day on Sunday. Power was also cut in some neighborhoods, with West Penn Power out early on Sunday helping to restore service.
"As soon as we get one cleared we get another call," said Jim who was working with West Penn Power crews on route 948 in Fox Township. “We have cleared three different spots on this road today from Kersey through the 219 intersections, and the snow tonight will not help that at all."
