JOHNSONBURG –– A normal Johnsonburg Area School Board meeting was taken by surprise with the resignation of Principal Brock Benson after an executive session on personnel midway through the standard meeting.
The board later voted to accept his resignation with regret as of the end of the school year in June. No further details were supplied.
The board also agreed to begin advertising for a new principal immediately. Benson was not present at the meeting to address any questions.
In another personnel matter, the board terminated Justin Napp as custodian, immediately voted to begin advertising for the position, and gave Superintendent Dennis Crotzer their approval to alter the other custodian's schedule as necessary to accommodate for the vacancy.
In other personnel news, Donna Miller was hired as a secretary for the Special Education Department, and permission was granted to advertise for a Special Education Teacher and a part-time Family Consumer Science teaching position.
Superintendent Crotzer addressed the Board regarding the school's Facebook being hacked.
"The JASD Facebook page has been hacked. The authorities are dealing with this. Please disregard their page until further notice," he said.
Crotzer described the frustrating back and forth both he and I.T. have had with Facebook.
"It's not as easy as just taking down all the disturbing posts as the hackers still have access to it and can change at any time, and because the first page is registered to the School District, we cannot create another one with the same address," said Crotzer. "It has been very frustrating, but all citizens, staff, and students should ignore anything posted on there until further notice."
The school board members also approved the 2019-2020 general operating budget of Intermediate Unit 9 in the amount of $1,051,258 with the Johnsonburg Area School District's share being $21,616.
