Johnsonburg Little League cancels season

Bob Parana - Staff Writer

The Knothole Fields in Johnsonburg will remain silent this summer. According to a post on its Facebook page the organization has decided to cancel an abbreviated season. Already Little League canceled state, regional and World Series tournaments. Some communities are still pondering the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic – including Ridgway. Here is the post from the local Little League.

“The Johnsonburg Area Little League Board of Directors has made the very difficult decision to cancel its Little League games this summer. As you may be aware, Little League International and the PA District Administrators had previously canceled all tournament play from sections to the World Series at all age levels.
Johnsonburg board members are in the process of contacting the parents/guardians of each player who signed up and will be discussing with them the plans for registration refunds/credits and addressing possible ‘pick up’ play and practices. We still want to offer our children the opportunity to play some baseball and softball this summer. Johnsonburg Little League will continue to work on field projects – resurfacing fields, fencing, backstops, etc. – as well as making plans for next year’s Little League season.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented situation.
Johnsonburg Area Little League
Board of Directors”
Ridgway League President Jacob Hoyle said in a text the league has not yet been canceled at this point and is waiting for details about the situation. Little League canceled its Little League baseball and softball World Series and its 50/70, Junior Little League baseball, and Senior Little League baseball and softball world tournaments and regional play on April 29. Pennsylvania canceled its state tournaments on May 2.
