Ridgway’s Julie Peterson’s three-pointer tied Wednesday night’s Class AA semi-final game with Keystone with 20 seconds remaining but Natalie Bowser’s layup 13 seconds later earned her team the victory and a shot at the District 9 Championship Friday night in Clarion. Despite the loss the number-one seeded Lady Elkers are still alive for a berth in the PIAA playoffs. They’ll play sixth-seeded Clarion, which lost to second-seeded Redbank Valley, 63-51, in the consolation game Friday night at 7 p.m. at the DuBois High School. Gabbi Rohr and Lindsay Steis each scored 10 points each for Ridgway, Christina Fullem added eight, Peterson seven, Payton Delhunty three and Eve Cobaugh two points.
“It’s not over for us. A lot of people did a lot of good things. Julie hit the big three and Gabbi, Payton, Christina, and Eve played their hearts out. Lindsay Steis, who nobody ever really talks about, is having a tremendous season and I think worthy of making all-star teams. I can’t ask for anymore from the group. The fan base has been great and I can’t ask for anything more. You can’t teach heart and these girls have it,” said Lady Elkers Head coach John Bennardi.
