The Ridgway Area School District Governing Board on Dec. 5, at the monthly Board meeting, voted to accept the proposal from The Nutrition Group to manage all food service in the District.
TNG has been working in the District since the beginning of the school year in a oversight and managerial status, but will take over all aspects of food service beginning in 2019.
This necessitated the separation of the cafeteria staff from the school district under the current contract negotiated with the Ridgway Area Education Support Professionals Association in July of 2018. Severance payments will be given to those employees with the required number of years of service, and all are free to apply with The Nutrition Group for open positions in the new Food Service Division.
The School District believes that the cafeteria workers were loyal and valuable members of the school family, but with the continuing funding challenges facing all public schools across Pennsylvania, especially those in rural areas, the District had no other choice but to take this option.
Contracts with both RAESPA and TNG are available for public viewing on the Board Docs section of the Ridgway School District website at www.boarddocs.com/pa/rasd/Board.nsf/Public.
In addition, The Nutrition Group website has a special site for parents and students, www.thenutritiongroup.biz/parents-caretakers/students/, where they are able to download a propriety app called Nutrislice to bring informatively, interactive digital menus of all foods served are available on the App. An image, detailed description, ingredients, carb counts, allergens, and special diet information is available for every item on the menu so parents and students can be informed and make smart choices on diets. Weekly menus and specials are also highlighted on the app, which is available for phones, tablets, and regular personal computers. This also helps the school district fulfill new nutritional guidelines laid out by the Department of Agriculture.
