Ridgway School Board holds September meeting

In an extended session of the Ridgway Area School Governing Board on Tuesday evening, updates on newly implemented programs and a weekend safety concern were the main focus as two executive sessions were needed to discuss personnel, labor relations, litigation and safety issues.
Under public comment, Bill Seeley brought up the fact that no reassessment of Elk County has been done since 1984 and that people should not be taxed on property evaluated at that time. He also announced he will be running as a write-in candidate for the school board in the fall election.
Sara Reed, a parent of two children at the elementary school, brought her concerns about a recent incident with her daughter to the board's attention. Her kindergarten aged daughter got on the wrong bus home from school on Friday, and Reed's entire family spent over an hour looking for her in addition to working with the school district. Her daughter was finally located about an hour after she should have been home on a bus in Ridgway Township. Reed and the board discussed several newly implemented plans, such as her sister coming to the classroom at the end of the day to walk to the bus with her sibling as a solution.
