Ridgway Elkers Greg Simon and Hayden Haupright were announced to the Annual Big 30 Charities Classic Pennsylvania team according to the latest release from the Big 30 Committee. The two will join teammate Robert Briggs who was announced earlier. Gage Burford of St. Marys was also announced this week and will join teammate Jake Walter (OG, NT) on the team. Simon will play Right Guard and Middle Linebacker in the August game. He was selected to the Big 30 All-Stars for his offensive line play, was the recipient of the Big 30’s 2019 E.B. Fitzpatrick-James Russell Memorial Unsung Lineman Award, and was picked as a District 9 Large Division interior lineman all-star. He was also a member of the District 9 Class AA Champion Elkers golf team.
“Greg deserves every bit of it. He is one of those rare breeds that played two sports in the same season and probably one of the only kids I’ve ever coached that earned two district titles in the same season. It says a lot about him and his work ethic,” said Ridgway Head coach Mark Heindl.
This will be the 47th edition of the game that pits the graduated PA All-Stars against their New York state counterparts. The contest will be played Saturday, Aug.1 at Bradford’s Parkway Field. Proceeds from the annual game are donated to individuals in need and charitable organizations in the Pennsylvania counties of McKean, Elk, Cameron, Potter and Warren, and Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautautauqua counties in New York.
