Zoning board considers options for recycling

A meeting of the Zoning Hearing Board of the Borough of Ridgway was held at the Second Ward Fire Hall on Monday, Oct. 30.
An application had been received by the Elk County Solid Waste requesting a special exception to Section 4, Subsection 405 of the zoning ordinance for a recycling drop-off depot in a commercial/residential zone at 364 Erie Ave.
Ridgway used to have curbside recycling pickup, but the borough eventually opted to disband it as officials said it was too expensive and was not being utilized enough to justify expenses. As a result, Ridgway residents either have to drive to St. Marys to drop off their recyclables at the county recycling center in St. Marys or they throw it in with their regular garbage.
